Our Brief

Finally we can travel again! After two years’ waiting for a return to ‘normal’ ArtsPeople’s Director Kathryn Hunyor will again curate and lead an 8-day cultural tour of Japan focusing on contemporary art, architecture and design as part of the Art Gallery of NSW Society’s World Art Tours. Catering to the AGNSW Society’s well-travelled and well-informed membership, Kathryn has updated and refreshed her tour to include some new and exciting artistic adventures.

The Project

This ‘week-long public program’ includes curated walking tours, gallery visits, themed lectures & special guests. The first week in Tokyo includes ‘Japanese Design Reborn’ from Marunouchi to Ginza, ‘The Art of Living’ in Roppongi, ‘The City as Museum’ in Omotesando & Aoyama, and ‘Downtown Delights’ in Ueno & Yanaka. The second week will immerse our visitors in Japanese & international contemporary art & architecture by Tadao Ando, Rei Naito, Ryue Nishizawa, Kazuo Sejima, Yukinori Yanagi, Lee Ufan, Yoshihiro Suda, James Turrell and many others, scattered across the Seto Inland Sea ‘art islands’ of Naoshima, Teshima & Inujima.
